摘要
城市空间扩展是城市化现象在空间上的表现，因此城市空间扩展是衡量城市化水平的主要测度指标之一。我国现在正处在城市化进程快速发展的时期，及时掌握城市空间扩展的信息，对于城市规划、城市建设、管理及决策具有重要的现实意义，随着我国城市化进程的加快，城镇建设中土地利用问题必将日益显现。加强城镇土地利用监测，对于确保在城镇建设中科学合理利用土地将起着不可估量的作用。随着卫星技术的不断发展，利用遥感（RS）和地理信息系统（GIS）手段对城市化发展进行监测与分析已经成为一种新的趋势。
以2002年和2009年的TM/ETM+遥感影像作为主要数据源，利用遥感软件ENVI对这两时期的遥感影像进行校正、裁剪、波段融合、最大似然分类、分类后信息提取、分类后影像叠加、动态分析，得出2002年到2009年间许昌市的城市建筑区扩大了9.8586平方千米，植被区减少10.2204平方千米，裸地增加0.3501平方千米，城市年均扩展速率为14.29%，向四周均有扩展，其中主要集中在市区的东北部区域。

ABSTRACT
In space, urban spatial expansion is the performance of urbanization. Therefore, expansion of urban space is one of the main measure index which is a measure of the level of urbanization. Now in the period China is undergoing rapid development of urbanization. Grasping the information of urban expansion has important practical significance for urban planning, urban construction, management and decision-making. With the acceleration of city development in our country, the problem of land use in the city construction must stand out increasingly. Strengthening the urban land use monitoring will play an invaluable role in ensuring scientific and rational use of urban land. As satellite technology and GIS technology developing, the use of RS tools to monitor urban development and analysis has become a new trend.
TM / ETM + remote sensing images of the years 2002 and 2009 were used as the main data source. These two remote sensing images have been carried out to be corrected, cutted, band fused, maximum likelihood classificated, information extracted, image overlay and dynamic analysis by using remote sensing software ENVI. Obtain the information that the city built-up areas in Xuchang city between 2002 to 2009 expanded 9.8586 square kilometers, reduced 10.2204 square kilometers of the vegetation areas, increased 0.3501 square kilometers of the bare ground. Urban average annual growth rate was 14.29%, Urban expansion was extended to the surrounding, mainly concentrated in north-eastern regions of the city.
