Wu Guanzhong's grasp on the art form of beauty is his greatest artistic characteristics. After decades of exploration, Wu has finally set up his own law of formalism and theoretical system, combined creative practice and theoretical framework well, and completed his artistic ideal “Modernization of Chinese Painting, Chinese Style of Oil Painting”, which is very important in contemporary art. Based on the development of Wu’s art style, this paper will describe the art history during his entire painting career, from the foundation of his art to the formation of his style, then to the mature style and to sublimation at last. This paper will also discuss the avant-garde related to the backgrounds, analyze the relationship between the artists and their backgrounds, and explore Wu’s inspiration of modern and contemporary art's "mix of Chinese and Western" artistic ideal.
